Domestic visitation statistics for NSW based on the latest Tourism Research Australia National Visitor Survey data.

Domestic overnight travel to NSW: quarterly snapshot

There were 36.1 million domestic overnight visitors to NSW in year ending September 2023 who stayed 116.2 million nights and spent $29.9 billion in the state.

Domestic travel to NSW continued to record an upward trend in the year ending September 2023 following the impact of the pandemic.

NSW recorded increases in domestic overnight visitors, visitor nights and expenditure in the year ending September 2023. Sydney also experienced increases in all three metrics, as did regional NSW, which leads regional Australia in domestic visitors and nights.

Domestic visitor statistics are sourced from Tourism Research Australia’s (TRA) National Visitor Survey (NVS).
